DHAKA: Terming Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s recent India tour as ‘unsuccessful’, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia said that the Premier returned home empty-handed.

“The country has been sacrificed during the PM’s tour”, she added.

She made the comments at a press conference at her political office at Gulshan in the city on Wednesday afternoon (April 12).

Khaleda Zia held the press conference to talk about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s four-day state tour to New Delhi.

“There was no achievement in the tour. She (Sheikh Hasina) came back in the country in empty hand. She brought nothing except assurances. She couldn’t realize minimum expectation of people during her visit,” said Khaleda Zia.

She criticized the PM for not talking about Sundarbans and Rampal power project during her bilateral talks.

Khaleda Zia termed the ruling Awami League as a non-political organization. “The party cling to power forcibly through the January-5 voter less elections. No political party took part in that election. The people boycotted the polls. So the government has no acceptance,” she said.

Coming down heavily on the neighboring country, she said that India intervened in the January-5 elections and that country is still now playing repulsive role to sustain the illegal Awami League government.

Coming down heavily also on the prime minister, the BNP chief said that most people of the country believe passionately that the country has been sacrificed during Sheikh Hasina’s New Delhi tour.

Sheikh Hasina went to the neighboring country with many expectations. But she did not meet any of that, said Khaleda Zia.

She continues that the countrymen did not want of signing of agreements and memorandum of understanding (MoU) with India. But, many agreements and MoUs were signed defying the countrymen, she alleged.
