2 planes come face-to-face at Delhi airport
A Jet Airways flight in Goa earlier on Tuesday skidded and took a 360-degree spin on the runway after aborting takeoff. In a separate incident, two flights came dangerously close at the Delhi IGI airport. Fortunately, major accidents were averted at both airports.
The Jet Airways flight 9W 2374 was carrying 154 passengers and 7 crew members onboard when it aborted take off and skidded on the runway at Dabolim airport. All the passengers were evacuated safely but 15 passengers suffered "minor" injuries.
A technical glitch while aligning for takeoff caused the incident, Jet Airways said. The airport has been closed till 12.30 PM local time.
In a separate incident, at Delhi`s IGI airport, an IndiGo flight, which had arrived from Lucknow came face-to-face with a SpiceJet plane prepping for a take off at the runway.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation, India`s safety regulator, says an investigation is underway to find out what went wrong, but according to the report, a miscommunication with the Air Traffic Control tower is to be blamed.
